Trump’s Greenland Push: A Bold Move for America’s Strategic Future

President Trump’s recent revival of interest in Greenland is exactly the kind of bold, America-first thinking this country needs — and the White House didn’t mince words when it said all options, including military ones, have been discussed in service of national security. Washington’s renewed focus on Greenland isn’t a vanity real-estate play; it’s a strategic bid for Arctic dominance, access to critical resources, and control over a region where rival powers are moving fast.

This isn’t the first time Trump has put Greenland on the table; he floated buying the island back in 2019 and got the predictable outrage from the same European elites who lecture us about international norms while freeloading on our defense. Greenlandic and Danish leaders have pushed back, insisting the island is not for sale, but their moralizing won’t change hard geostrategic realities or America’s right to defend its interests.

Let’s be clear: conservatives should cheer a president who puts American safety and prosperity ahead of polite European opinion. Greenland sits astride trans-Atlantic sea lanes, hosts vital U.S. installations, and sits on mineral wealth that could make China and Russia salivate; securing that advantage is common-sense patriotism, not imperial hubris. Our enemies aren’t pausing to ask for permission while they scramble for Arctic influence, and neither should we.

The larger conversation that Megyn Kelly and Glenn Greenwald had about possibly splitting from NATO is a healthy one for anyone who puts America first. NATO has been an unmatched pillar of Western security, but it has also too often become a club where Washington foots the bill while freeloaders offer empty promises. If membership in that alliance no longer serves American interests, or if allies won’t pay their fair share, then revisiting our commitments — and wielding the leverage we’ve earned — is the responsible course.

Some will call talk of leaving NATO reckless; others will whisper that we must never rock the boat. The real recklessness is continuing to pour American blood and treasure into a global order that expects our generosity as a birthright while denouncing our strength. Conservatives should demand a NATO that works for America: real burden-sharing, clear priorities, and unconditional support for policies that actually defend our borders and values.

At the end of the day, the people in Washington who worry more about European sensitivities than about American families paying the bills should remember who they work for. We owe it to our kids to keep America safe, prosperous, and sovereign — and if that means bold negotiations over Greenland, hard-nosed reforms of our alliances, or even walking away from institutions that no longer serve us, then so be it. Patriots don’t apologize for putting their country first.
