In the latest chapter of what seems like a never-ending saga about the origins of COVID-19, the outgoing Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, has dropped a bombshell. She’s released a trove of documents that threaten to blow the lid off Dr. Anthony Fauci’s alleged role in sending taxpayer dollars to experiments in Wuhan, China. These experiments, as we all know, are closely linked to the birth of the pandemic that turned the world upside down.
The documents Gabbard released claim to show a cover-up of epic proportions. According to her, these papers contain never-before-seen communications and documents that allegedly outline how Fauci, working with certain politicized officials within the intelligence community, strove to suppress the truth about his involvement. It’s the kind of revelation that would make any politician sweat, as it suggests that the lab leak theory was on the radar of intelligence officials as early as March 2020. Some officials were already questioning whether the virus could have been genetically engineered. Of course, the whistleblowers who supported this theory faced consequences, highlighting the chilling environment for truth-tellers.
Among the most eye-catching pieces of information is the revelation about funding for COVID-related research in China. The documents dovetail nicely with old suspicions by detailing how EcoHealth Alliance received National Institutes of Health grant money for a project focused on bat coronavirus emergence. An entire $66,500 of U.S. taxpayer funds were reportedly funneled to research at the Wuhan lab, a partner in this precarious endeavor. This kind of spending would likely raise more than a few eyebrows, considering the rampant speculation that has existed about the origins of the virus.
Then, there’s the allegation that Fauci flat out lied under oath during his 2024 congressional testimony. He had denied knowing about discussions with U.S. intelligence regarding COVID research. Meanwhile, echoes of a notorious exchange with Senator Rand Paul about whether the U.S. funded gain-of-function research ring anew. Even as Fauci persistently denied the funding went to such research at the Wuhan Institute, a review of the Gabbard documents suggests otherwise. Finding out that U.S. money may have contributed to adding human receptors to bat coronaviruses is enough to make anyone concerned.
Finally, the documents reveal that the CIA was privy to the illness of Wuhan lab staff in late 2019. This only adds another layer of intrigue to an already convoluted tale. The fact that Fauci, with all his influence, focused heavily on other theories rather than this possibility, raises further criticisms of his objectivity and the narrative he championed. Back in the day, when Dr. Fauci was the golden boy during the pandemic, shielded from scrutiny, these sorts of revelations would have been unthinkable. Now, as various hidden truths bubble to the surface, the American public might justifiably feel like they’ve been played by those at the highest levels.
