JPMorgan CEO Slams Mamdani’s ‘Vicious’ Leadership Styles

In the latest absurd escapade from the world of progressive politics, New York’s Mayor Zoran Mdani has garnered quite the reputation for launching a full-scale attack on success, all in the name of his socialist ideology. The caper happened after a meeting with the sovereign of all banking moguls, JP Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon. The mayor seems intent on making “Tax the Rich” the city hymn while simultaneously scaring away anyone who has two pennies to rub together. It’s like scaring off the golden goose and then complaining about the lack of golden eggs.

Jamie Dimon, a man who’s seen more balance sheets than most of us have seen movies, didn’t take too kindly to this war on wealth. He made it clear that the success that makes a city thrive is vanishing because the city’s leaders seem more enthusiastic about chasing away businesses than attracting them. One might think that a bustling economic climate might be more attractive than a mass exodus, but apparently, such practical considerations do not align with Mayor Mdani’s vision of a socialist utopia.

Dimon warned Mayor Mdani that people could—and would—vote with their feet if pushed to the brink. He noted something true: business leaders are like migratory birds. They’ll find warmer, friendlier climates where they’re appreciated instead of being threatened with higher taxes. And when the businesses fly south for a tax break, the jobs fly with them, leaving your average New Yorker to carry the burden and foot the tax bill that was supposed to be covered by the elites now sipping piña coladas in Florida or Texas.

The classic repetition of history plays out like a tired rerun. Socialism has shown time and again—it’s the gift that keeps on taking. For some reason, politicians like Mdani keep expecting a different result, a feat that’s practically the definition of insanity. The Wall Street Journal’s Jerry Baker described it accurately, suggesting that the city isn’t booming because of socialist schemes; it’s thriving because so far, capitalism was still allowed to do its magic.

But not to worry; even in the face of pell-mell policies, private sector leaders like Jamie Dimon are holding discussions with the city’s leadership, trying to instill some business sense into the chaotic mix. These dialogues might just prevent New York from transforming into a post-capitalist wasteland, although it’s difficult to predict what will prevail—reason or rhetoric. If Mayor Mdani listens to reason before it’s too late, New York might avoid discovering the hard way why socialism has been a historical flop. As it stands, while the mayor has the vigor of a reformer, he might just want to consider not reforming New York into irrelevance.
