Biden’s Parole Program Let In Haitian Charged in Trooper’s Death

The tragic story unfolding from a crash in Pennsylvania involving a truck driver exposes a glaring flaw in the current immigration and licensing system. Michael Bond, a Haitian national, was behind the wheel of a semi-truck that veered off Interstate 81, resulting in a devastating accident that took the life of dedicated Pennsylvania State Trooper Mike. The circumstances surrounding this incident paint a picture of bureaucratic inefficiency and the dangers of lax immigration policies.

The Department of Homeland Security explains that Bond lost his parole status last year and was ordered to leave the country. Yet, like many such cases, he remained in the U.S., resulting in this avoidable tragedy. It really makes one wonder what part of “leave” he did not understand or why enforcement was conspicuously absent. While Bond now faces an array of serious charges, including homicide by vehicle, a question lingers: Why was he even allowed to possess a commercial driver’s license?

It’s almost comical — if it weren’t so tragic — that the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, under an apparent loophole, issued Bond a non-domiciled commercial driver’s license. The timing was impeccable, as the Trump administration’s directive to halt such issuances to illegal immigrants came into play just after his license was renewed. When it comes to narrowly missing the point, Massachusetts seems to have hit the bullseye.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is reportedly working to amend this loophole, aiming to prevent further cases like Bond’s. Well, here’s a novel idea: enforce the laws already in place. It’s not a complex concept, yet bureaucratic inertia appears to have rendered it maddeningly elusive. The idea that a person residing in the country illegally can acquire a commercial driver’s license seems straight out of a comedy script gone wrong.

Adding a layer of heartbreak to the story, Trooper Mike had recently moved back home to assist his mother, who is heroically battling cancer. This public servant’s dedication to both family and community stands in stark contrast to the irresponsible policies that allowed Bond to sit behind the wheel of a truck. It seems all the tears and thoughts go to the families left behind as policymakers puzzle over glaring issues as though they require an advanced degree to comprehend.

The broader issue here involves the states that continue issuing licenses to individuals without legal status, conveniently ignoring federal policies. This is not an isolated incident; previous deadly crashes have also involved illegal immigrant drivers. The question remains how many more families must face such irreplaceable losses before substantive changes are enforced. Perhaps it’s time to rethink the sanctuary policies and “open arms” gestures that have wonderfully backfired in heartbreaking ways. The solution is right there, buried under piles of ignored paperwork and wishful thinking.
