In today’s tangled web of social politics, one can’t help but feel as though they’ve wandered into the kind of logic maze that has no clear exit. It’s a scene full of contradictions and lopsided arguments, like a seesaw where one side is always heavier, and it seems to focus on the matter of accountability—or the apparent lack of it—when it concerns certain parts of the population. Take, for example, the recent chatter that suggests women are both entirely autonomous and yet completely at the mercy of misunderstood hormones all at once. It’s as if having Girl Power™ means simultaneously wielding absolute agency and none at all.

Now, here’s where it really gets confusing. The narrative seems to suggest that if women occasionally step out of line and end up in an unpleasant headline, it’s not really their fault. Nope, you guessed it, it must be the hormones, or perhaps a mix-up in medication. And should those medications have been prescribed by a doctor who missed the mark? Well, that’s definitely not on the woman; blame the doc. Yet, when it comes down to any triumphs or achievements, that’s all credit to good old female empowerment, no question about it.

All this twirling on the Carousel of Blame would be easier to stomach if there weren’t a second act to the play: the delicate matter of gender identity. If a biological man identifies as a woman, does this mean they inherit this magical ability to be partially accountable, fully empowered, and wholly immune to criticism? Apparently not, because the biological component of traditional womanhood—wait for it—doesn’t just hinge on hormones, but also on having a uterus. Yet, having such an organ is neither a requirement nor a defining factor for womanhood these days.

It sounds like a classic case of wanting all the benefits without any of the responsibilities, reminiscent of a parenting model where no child is ever wrong. Society—bless its heart—seems determined to provide adults, especially women, with this model, sparing the rod of accountability. Just imagine if such leniency was applied across the board. The utopian vision of an all-reward, no-consequence society is more likely to be a dystopian playground for the entitled and the unruly, a bad sequel to “Lord of the Flies.”

To untangle this mess, perhaps it’s time we go back to the basics. Accountability does not need to be scary; it’s a vital part of being in any functioning society. Instead of seeing hormones and identity as tickets to a consequence-free life, maybe it’s time for a more balanced narrative. Once everyone, regardless of gender lines or identity threads, embraces their share of responsibility, we’ll be skipping fewer circles and circling more sensible discussions.
