In the ever-entertaining circus of American politics, the Democratic stage just got a little more crowded and a whole lot messier with the latest performance from none other than Hunter Biden. Coming out of relative obscurity, he has decided to wield his questionable wisdom in defense of Graham Platner, the scandal-ridden Democratic Senate candidate. Now, here you have two men whose histories read more like tabloid nightmares than political résumés – united on a podcast with California Governor Gavin Newsom. Let that sink in for a moment.
Hunter Biden, who is no stranger to controversy himself, has quite the bold take on the matter. It’s almost comedic how he challenges the notion of judging someone based on their personal behaviors by equating it to a “show me your phone” test. Curious, isn’t it? This proclamation from a man who has, shall we say, a colorful past that includes felony charges, drug usage, and encounters with sex workers. Yet, he stands as a flagbearer of moral relativity in the Democratic camp. Perhaps the party should reassess if he is the face they want alongside their candidates.
Then we have Sage Steel stepping in to bring a splash of reality to this political vaudeville. She rightly questions how Hunter, with his laundry list of indiscretions, can be seen as a moral compass for the party. One might even chuckle at the thought of him advising on standards when his own seem as elastic as a well-worn waistband. Steel’s commentary hits a nerve, emphasizing the need for higher standards or maybe just some standards at all, especially when aiming for high office.
As for Graham Platner, this candidate appears to be taking the phrase “every week a new scandal” a tad too literally. With each passing day, fresh allegations surface like a bottomless well of controversy. It seems like an open secret that Platner’s political career is a sinking ship, yet Democrats cling to him with the tenacity of someone refusing to abandon a leaky boat. They argue democracy, but when you’ve got ex-fiancees spilling more beans than a careless cook and tattoos with, shall we say, ‘interesting’ meanings, one might suggest they practice a little self-preservation.
Even Jose Arista Muno, former DNC insider, seems perplexed by the Democrats’ insistence on keeping Platner afloat. He echoes sentiments that many Democrats have better options, yet Platner remains their chosen horse in what appears to be a race to the bottom. Perhaps it’s high time they drop this particular jagged puzzle piece that clearly doesn’t fit.
Sadly, while Hunter Biden and Platner are busy being the talk of the town for all the wrong reasons, real issues languish on the backburner. As the American economy flounders and gas prices soar, one hopes Democrats can pivot from the mess and focus on the genuine challenges their constituents face daily. After all, they might realize that they don’t have to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find acceptable candidates – if only they looked beyond it.
