In the heart of New Jersey, chaos seems to be the theme of the day at Delaney Hall. Protesters are once again rallying against ICE agents, causing quite the upheaval. To stir the pot further, Governor Mikey Cheryl decided to play peacemaker by deploying state police and creating what is charmingly called a “peaceful, protected protest zone.” It’s almost like a VIP area for those who enjoy biting the hands – or rather the ICE agents – that keep us safe. And if you listen carefully, you can almost hear the sound of the governor patting herself on the back for being so “moderate.”
Governor Cheryl’s administration, in concert with the usual cocktail of faith leaders and advocates, is more focused on calming tensions than addressing the crux of the issue: that many of those detained are not just casual border crossers. They’ve committed some real doozies here in the good old U.S. of A. Yet, in this topsy-turvy world, we see more sympathy for the trespassers than for the citizens impacted by their crimes.
Meanwhile, inside detention centers like Delaney Hall, the menu appears more appetizing than what many taxpayers enjoy. Makes one wonder if they’re confusing detention with a deluxe dining experience. With choices like French toast and chicken fajitas, it seems more like a food festival than a holding facility. Definitely not the austere image they’re trying to sell. Protests for better food are often the stuff of college campuses, not facilities housing criminals. And speaking of empathy, where was this outcry when conditions for children at other facilities were found to be less than stellar? Oh right, that rhetoric wasn’t politically advantageous then.
The tangled web of double standards extends beyond immigration. Enter the Biden family drama – more specifically, Hunter Biden’s saga of dubious tax activities and incriminating gun charges. Former First Lady Jill Biden has appeared on the public stage attempting to excuse her husband’s past declarations that he wouldn’t pardon their son. Surprise, surprise – he didn’t quite stick to his guns. If consistency was gold, this administration would be dirt poor.
To round out the theater of political absurdity, Governor Michelle Lujan Grissom from New Mexico boldly suggests that Democrats don’t need men to win elections. Well, isn’t that just a winning strategy? Let’s alienate half the population; just fantastic political strategy. Turns out, both parties are struggling to woo young men, who feel disenfranchised from a system that seems more interested in scoring political points than addressing real concerns. Yet, looking at this political landscape, one might think the Democrats are auditioning for a role in an introspective soap opera titled “How to Win (or Lose) Elections by Alienating Constituencies.”
In a bizarre twist of the political tale, it was President Trump who found resonance with young men. With podcasts and real talk, he connected in ways that the modern GOP could learn from. But while they juggle between strategies, we’re left with these entertaining albeit puzzling trails left by our leaders. The question remains: Will either party truly listen and address the issues that matter beyond the confines of protest zones and detention center dining menus? One can only hope.
