Lawmakers Battle to Curb Rising Fraud Threats, Claims Rep. Young Kim

California has recently found itself at the center of a scandal involving fraud in the healthcare system, particularly in hospice care. Just this week, the state made headlines as Dr. Mame Oz revealed that around 800 hospital and home healthcare providers have been suspended. This shocking announcement tied back to a network of foreign criminals who have been cleverly siphoning off nearly a billion dollars from taxpayers’ pockets. It’s enough to make anyone’s head spin, and certainly raises the question: what needs to happen to put an end to this rampant fraud?

The magnitude of the issue is staggering. For instance, just in Los Angeles County, there’s been a jaw-dropping increase of 1,500% in the number of hospice providers. While these providers should be caring for the elderly and vulnerable, it appears that many are instead exploiting the system for personal gain. This is not just a minor hiccup in the state’s healthcare system; it’s a full-blown crisis that demands immediate attention and action.

One of the leading figures in the battle against this healthcare fraud is a brave independent journalist named Nick Shirley. For years, Shirley has been shining a spotlight on the deception that many politicians in California have conveniently chosen to ignore. Instead of applauding the reporting efforts that unveil these fraudulent activities, some politicians have labeled investigators as “crazy.” Ironically, it seems that the only thing “crazy” is the notion that those revealing the truth should be silenced while the actual fraudsters roam free.

To combat this growing issue, Congresswoman Kim has taken steps to propose the No More Scams Act. This vital piece of legislation aims to strengthen the efforts of the President’s anti-fraud task force, which is led by Vice President Jade De Vance. The act aims to bolster the fight against fraud while ensuring that those who uncover the truth are not met with hostility or attempts to discredit them. It’s clear that California needs to get behind independent journalists like Nick Shirley—those committed to exposing fraudulent activities that harm the most vulnerable among us.

The spotlight is now on California’s lawmakers, who have often shied away from confronting this issue head-on. With the evidence piling up and the stakes higher than ever, it’s imperative for them to take decisive action against both the fraudulent providers and the networks that facilitate this crime. Stopping this fraud is not just a matter of accountability; it’s about protecting the trust and care that should be afforded to our senior citizens. The time for change is now, and with a united front, the people can work towards a system free from scams and dedicated to genuine care.
