From Bikes to Ubers: Our Wild Journey to the World Cup at MetLife

In the quest for the ultimate World Cup experience at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, a group of intrepid reporters set out from Penn Station, each choosing a different method of transportation. Excitement was in the air as they embarked on their journey to witness the excitement of soccer at its finest, but little did they know that each method would come with its own unique challenges.

Two of the adventurers, Javier and Carl, decided to make their way across the water on a ferry. With the wind in their hair and the skyline of New York City behind them, they seemed to have chosen the most picturesque route. Meanwhile, Peter opted for a more direct approach and hopped on his bike, heading toward the George Washington Bridge. The remaining duo, Jasmine and the author, faced an uphill battle right from the start. The search for the correct boarding zone at Penn Station felt like an episode of a treasure hunt gone wrong. After a good ten minutes of wandering aimlessly, they finally made their way to find Jasmine’s Uber, only to discover that traffic was as heavy as a hippo at a dance-off, leaving them both frustrated.

Jasmine’s second Uber attempt had her fingers crossed and a hopeful heart, but the gods of traffic were not in her favor. As she awaited her ride, the others were already sweating it out under the scorching sun while trying to navigate dangerous road conditions. It took a herculean effort of five hours and fifteen minutes to finally reach MetLife Stadium. They all met at the stadium entrance, looking like they had just completed an extreme obstacle course. The sentiment was clear—each mode of transport came with a hefty price of sweat and some regrettable decisions.

Those brave souls who chose to walk or bike their way to the stadium came back with the same piece of advice: don’t do it! While adventurous hearts may relish a good challenge, the heat was relentless, and the road was unforgiving. They endured hot pavement and long stretches of road without shade, leaving little to be desired in terms of comfort during their ambitious journey.

In the end, the smartest option proved to be the New Jersey Transit train. Though it was a little on the pricey side, almost $100, the convenience and relative ease of the ride far outweighed the frustrations. It offered a straightforward and efficient way to bypass the chaos of traffic and the discomfort of the heat. With this valuable lesson in mind, the group realized that sometimes the road less traveled is less about an adventurous spirit and more about common sense.

As the group made their way into the stadium, spirits were high despite the hurdles they faced. Nothing quite compares to the thrill of the World Cup, and it seems that, through sweat, delays, and a bit of misadventure, they ultimately shared a memorable experience that would be remembered for years to come. After all, in the world of sports, being part of the journey is just as exhilarating as the destination—especially when it comes to the electrifying atmosphere of a World Cup match!
